Stephen K. Milott
Stephen K. Milott received his Juris Doctor degree from Chicago's John Marshall Law School in 1977, graduating in the top 1% of his class and receiving the West Publishing Company Award for Scholastic Achievement. His honors included an invitation to the staff of the law school's Journal of Practice and Procedure.
He is a former Cook County Assistant State's Attorney, with appointment as a Special Assistant United State's Attorney. Mr. Milott has also served as a Special Assistant Illinois Attorney General. He has successfully completed both the standard and advanced courses of the National Institute for Trial Advocacy and has participated in post-graduate classes with the Institute. As an Assistant State's Attorney, Mr. Milott was enrolled in special seminars regarding perpetration of insurance fraud and successfully completed the investigation and prosecution of numerous arson-for-profit and organized financial crime cases.
He has been in private practice for more than twenty-five years and has brought hundreds of cases to verdict and judgment in both state and federal courts. His extensive courtroom experience includes trials throughout numerous counties in Illinois, Indiana and federal district courts, in both criminal and civil matters. In addition to admission to the Illinois State Bar, Mr. Milott is admitted to practice in the state of Indiana and before the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois where he is a member of the Federal Trial Bar. He is admitted to and has argued before the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals and is also licensed before the Supreme Court of the United States. Mr. Milott has practiced in numerous other jurisdictions, pro hac vice, and has been a member of the asbestos litigation defense groups in several states, as well.
Mr. Milott handles asbestos litigation defense on behalf of Gunty & McCarthy, throughout the states of Indiana and Illinois. He recently tried, to a successful verdict, an alleged "sick building syndrome" case based on an environmental company plaintiff's claim of bad air quality. He has reported cases in both state and federal digests and has presided as a Moot Court judge at several area law schools. Mr. Milott is a member of the National Association of District Attorneys and past member of the American Bar, the Illinois State Bar and the Chicago Bar Associations. He specializes in the trial of complex toxic tort and general negligence cases as a senior member of the firm.
