Colter Kennedy joined the team at Gunty & McCarthy in 2022. He practiced at large and midsize St. Louis civil defense firms before joining Gunty & McCarthy. Colter has experience handling mass tort, toxic tort, wrongful death, commercial litigation, construction, insurance coverage, premises liability, transportation, and maritime cases for large corporations and insurers. Colter’s experience in litigation extends from pre-suit to trial. In 2018, Colter became the managing author of the LexisNexis Practice Guide: Missouri Pretrial Civil Litigation—an annual publication that has been renewed every year from 2019 to present.
Colter is a graduate of Washington University School of Law in St. Louis. While in law school, Colter was a member of the International Moot Court team and helped draft several appeals for clients before the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals as a part of Washington University School of Law’s Appellate Clinic. Colter also interned for the Honorable William G. Cobb of the United States District Court for the District of Nevada.
Immediately after law school, Colter worked for the Missouri Public Defender, where he received the “Get in the Way of Injustice” Award, a commendation for drafting and arguing outstanding legal motions. While at the Missouri Public Defender, he second-chaired and first-chaired several defense cases at trial.
