ILLINOIS 5TH DISTRICT JUDGE REPLACMENT

As we previously reported to you, the 5th District Appellate Judge S. Gene Schwarm (Republican) retired at the end of December 2016. Last month the Illinois Supreme Court filled that vacancy by appointing Republican 2d Circuit Court Judge, David K. Overstreet. With that appointment, the Republicans continue to hold a 4-3 majority in the 5th District Appellate Court which includes the Madison & St. Clair County Circuit Courts. Judge Overstreet will continue to hold his position on the 2d Circuit in addition to filling in on the 5th District Appellate Court until he is either elected to the fifth district or takes another position. He will be up for retention for the 2d Circuit position in 2020.
